9/11 - A Day To Pick Up Someone Else's Trash

Back in April, the Community Organizer in Chief, President Obama, signed legislation that established the 9/11 Day of Service. The Obama administration changed the meaning of 9/11. It will no longer be a day of remembrance, but rather "a day service" - a day of "community organizing".

It's going to be a day to do "service work" instead of remembering and memorializing those who were murdered in America in 2001. Obama wants you to save that day for donating clothing, planting community gardens, collecting food for food pantries and other "feel good" and/or "green" projects.

The Obama administration's plans were outlined in an Aug. 11 White House-sponsored teleconference call which was coordinated by Obama ally Lennox Yearwood, president of the Hip Hop Caucus, and Liv Havstad, the group's senior vice president of strategic partnerships and programs.

A coalition of organizations involved in this day of service conference call:
Color of Change and about 60 far-left, environmentalist, labor, and corporate shakedown groups participated in the call. Groups on the call included: ACORN, AFL-CIO, Apollo Alliance, Community Action Partnership, Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, 80 Million Strong for Young American Jobs, Friends of the Earth, Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies,, National Black Police Association, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, National Council of Negro Women, National Wildlife Federation, RainbowPUSH Coalition, Urban League, and Young Democrats of America.
These are the organizations that will no doubt comprise Obama's new army of "civil servants" (aka: a national security force) - and which is going to be funded with more money than the military - with YOUR tax dollars no less. Some are already getting huge sums of money via government funding. (Like Americorps' $5.7 billion funding as a result of the national service bill signed by Obama earlier this year)

And NO - I am not averse to community service and good deeds - What I am averse to is the exploitation of 9/11 in order to advance a Socialist agenda in this country - one that utilizes far Left and Socialist groups and unions to usurp the solemnity of remembrance with some twisted sense of voluntary servitude for "the country".

If you want to pick up trash, fill a food bank's pantries, or donate clothing - do it because you want to do it - not because Obama "gives you a day" to do it.

In fact, if you really want to memorialize those who died on 9/11 - pledge to work to Restore the Constitution and our liberties which were taken from us as a result of 9/11 (The Patriot Act, Various Executive orders, etc.) . I am certain that those who perished would have hated to see tyranny flourish as a result of that tragic day, and would not have wanted to see the organization and legitimization of some sort of "national security or service force" in their name.

It Ain't America No More

When we have police and/or security officers making up laws on the fly like this then we know we have big trouble.

This "officer" is abusing his authority and should be fired. Period.

You bet "it ain't America no more" when we have stuff like this happening!

School grounds have different laws?
You can't have a sign with a picture?
This officer can charge him with whatever he wants to charge him with?

The question is will Americans like YOU tolerate this kind of tyranny?
And how will YOU combat it?

Czars And Czarinas - Who ARE These People?

As of July 20, 2009:

• There are 32 Czars/Czarinas in the Obama administration, based on media reports from reputable sources that have identified the official in question as a "Czar".
• In addition, President Obama has said that he will create the position of cyber czar, and there have been media reports that there could be a health insurance czar and a copyright czar. When and if those positions are filled, that would bring the total to 35.
• "Czar or Czarina" isn't an official government job title.

Congress didn't appoint them or confirm them. Obama appointed them.
They have power. But not power given to them by the people - or by Congress.
The responsibilities of all of these Czars and Czarinas could have been handled by various government departments and agencies. Who takes orders from these people? Are they setting policy? Why are government departments and agencies functions being circumvented or duplicated? And how much money are these Czars and Czarinas costing the taxpayer? Were these payoff appointments? Some say this is a shadow government. It makes you wonder.

But let's take a look at who these people are.

The book reportedly includes this statement: "population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing Constitution." Holdren's office says he "does not now and never has been an advocate of compulsory abortions or other repressive measures to limit fertility."

We The People

Michael Badnarik

We The People are the source of all political power.

Two Thought Provoking Videos

One about the Federal Reserve

The other is Glenn Beck's Monday (8/24/09) show - asking some very pointed questions.

This isn't about Left versus Right - it isn't about Bush versus Obama - it's about Tyranny versus Liberty. We ARE being financially enslaved by our government. We ARE being lied to. The policies they are pursuing are absolutely unsustainable and absolutely destructive.
Remember they NEVER waste a crisis - and have been using those opportunities to seize more power and control.

The question is: what are YOU as a citizen going to do about it?
- Continental Congress 2009
- Support Liberty candidates - those who will restore the Republic and adhere to the Constitution.
- Don't allow your voice to be silenced - don't be intimidated.
- Join organizations which are seeking to protect and defend our Constitution.
- Stand up for your rights
- Protect your assets

Remember that government doesn't GIVE you your rights - but it is supposed to protect them.

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. -Thomas Jefferson

One Leaves Home - One Comes Home

The girl left for college last Friday - actually we helped move her in.
She's got a whole new chapter in her life beginning.
She's excited and raring to go.
She's got suite mates and new school books and some really interesting classes.
One class requires her to attend two concerts and write papers about them.
Oh, the life of a Music Industry major!

The middle boy, on the other hand, graduated from college on Sunday.
He looked splendid in his black cap and gown and received a gorgeous diploma (suitable for framing, of course)
He graduated in a class of roughly 600. It took a while to get through all those names.
But it was wonderful.
He's got a degree in Computer Networking and his specialty is computer security and ethical hacking. (That's where companies pay you to break into their computer systems so they can discover their vulnerabilities.)
He's come home for the time being and is seeking employment, as are many of his friends. The job market is tight even for technical degrees - so I can't even begin to imagine what Philosophy or Literature majors are dealing with! He is pondering starting his own business. We'll see how things go. My guess is that he won't be home for long. He's making some plans.
He too, is starting a new chapter in his life (and there is a female involved).

I can't tell you how proud I am of both of them, as well as of my oldest who is gainfully employed and living his own life (and paying off his student loans).

And life goes on ....

Eight Reasons Why Big Government Hurts Economic Growth

Dan Mitchell analyzes the economic impact of big government spending.

"Simply put, freedom is the absence of government coercion. Our Founding Fathers understood this, and created the least coercive government in the history of the world. The Constitution established a very limited, decentralized government to provide national defense and little else. States, not the federal government, were charged with protecting individuals against criminal force and fraud. For the first time, a government was created solely to protect the rights, liberties, and property of its citizens. Any government coercion beyond that necessary to secure those rights was forbidden, both through the Bill of Rights and the doctrine of strictly enumerated powers. This reflected the founders’ belief that democratic government could be as tyrannical as any King.

Few Americans understand that all government action is inherently coercive. If nothing else, government action requires taxes. If taxes were freely paid, they wouldn’t be called taxes, they’d be called donations. If we intend to use the word freedom in an honest way, we should have the simple integrity to give it real meaning: Freedom is living without government coercion. So when a politician talks about freedom for this group or that, ask yourself whether he is advocating more government action or less" - Dr. Ron Paul

"Tax policy should not be based on the premise that government owns you and allows you to keep some arbitrary amount of your labor." - Dr. Ron Paul

"A government which lays taxes on the people not required by urgent public necessity and sound public policy is not a protector of liberty, but an instrument of tyranny." Calvin Coolidge

New Website To Admit One's Mistake

It's okay to admit you made a mistake.

We've all had buyers remorse at one time or another.

Here is one quote:
"I fell for it. I fell for all the hype. I really, really thought he was different. I was so wrong."

There should probably be a companion site for those who voted for McCain too (wink) ...

Next time, vote for Liberty and the Constitution.

Commentary By PJTV On Iconography

Barack Obama ran an unprecedented Presidential campaign - utilizing the power of design to help secure the seat of the President of the United States of America. However, his iconic emblem, the ever present "O", holds more power than even Obama knows. Bill Whittle points out the dangers of branding an ideology with an icon and how, perhaps, the powerful symbol will be used against the very man it built up.

And as Bill Whittle points out - Powerful branding has been used by other "leaders" too...

How Do You Want Your Eggs?

Today's post was written by guest blogger - David Aron

If you live in the city, the answer may be “as fresh as possible.” The “Urban Chicken Movement,” where city dwellers feed and house chickens in their backyard, is gaining momentum. Several news outlets have reported on this, including this story from Newsweek, which reports that local ordinances against chicken farming have been overturned in several cities as a result of this movement:
“Over the past few years, urban dwellers driven by the local-food movement, in cities from Seattle to Albuquerque, have flocked to the idea of small-scale backyard chicken farming—mostly for eggs, not meat—as a way of taking part in home-grown agriculture. This past year alone, grass-roots organizations in Missoula, Mont.; South Portland, Maine; Ann Arbor, Mich.; and Ft. Collins, Colo., have successfully lobbied to overturn city ordinances outlawing backyard poultry farming, defined in these cities as egg farming, not slaughter. Ann Arbor now allows residents to own up to four chickens (with neighbors' consent), while the other three cities have six-chicken limits, subject to various spacing and nuisance regulations.”
Interestingly, some city dwellers are even keeping chickens in violation of their local ordinances, as reported by this story in the Christian Science Monitor
“Citing unsanctioned henhouses in Denver, Boston, and other cities, Worldwatch’s Ben Block notes that an ‘underground ‘urban chicken’ movement has swept across the United States in recent years,’ flouting authorities’ concerns about noise, odors, and public health.”
What is going on here? What is the origin of this intense desire to raise chickens in city, even to the point of defying local ordinances? The following quote from the previous story lays it all on the line:
“According to the website BackyardChickens, considered authoritative in the online urban-chicken-enthusiast pecking order, three hens will net you, on average, two eggs a day. And the eggs are said to be tastier and more nutritious than the ones you can get at a supermarket.”
Let’s recap.
Residents of cities and suburbs are buying live chickens in increased numbers, housing them, feeding them and caring for them in order to get fresh eggs. These people should not be viewed as odd or weird, but rather as individuals that are taking control of their own food supply. Moreover, the rise in urban farming is not only isolated to chicken farming. Backyard gardens are also on the rise in urban areas, with grassy lawns being converted into vegetable gardens yielding fresh, organic produce.

So what’s the big deal? So people want fresh food! Why is this important? To understand this movement, we have to take a step back and consider a crucial economic concept: the Division of Labor.

Division of Labor is the idea that certain people specialize in producing certain goods. For example, instead of someone producing all the food, shelter, clothing, heating, etc… that they need for themselves under a system of self-sufficiency, they specialize in one area and produce only that good (ie. shoes). Then they engage in trade with others who have specialized in other areas (ie. butter) in order to obtain the items that enable and enhance live. By specializing and engaging in trade, both parties are able to produce much more than was originally possible under self-sufficiency. They are able to take advantage of economies of scale that help them provide those goods to others at lower costs. Moreover, since individuals are specializing, they are able to gain technical knowledge and to innovate, which allows for increased productivity. As you can see, the division of labor bestows numerous benefits upon society, in the form of increased productivity and lower cost goods. This in turn allows the society to support a larger population, as well as increased leisure time and support of activities (such as Blogging) that do not serve any direct physiological human need. In fact, no economy can function properly without the division of labor.

Now back to our urban chicken/gardening movement. Who are these urbanites that are raising chickens and growing their own food? Are they farmers? No. They are lawyers, doctors, insurance agents, teachers, TV repairmen, etc… They are everyday people, who are slowly eschewing the division of labor and returning to a life of self-sufficiency. By growing their own food they are making a statement.

That statement is:

It is more cost effective for us to grow our own food and raise our own chickens in order to obtain the level of quality we desire from our food products than to purchase those food products from the existing corporate agricultural establishment, which has the benefit of economies of scale, time-saving farming capital equipment and specialized technical knowledge.

And you know that statement is true!
Compare fresh eggs to the ones you will find in Stop and Shop for $1.50. Even the organic eggs at $4.00 a dozen are not as good as the ones freshly gathered from the backyard hens. Think about it, these urbanites are taking time away from their own businesses in order to grow food. They are saying they can do it better than the farmers can. It means that the division of labor is breaking down and that the benefits of trade are slowly evaporating.

But why? Why can’t the market provide the same or better quality of food than those people growing it for themselves? You guessed it. Government Regulation.

All of the federal, state and local programs out there aimed at farms have created such a high regulatory burden that the free market simply cannot offer consumers the quality of food they want anymore. Moreover, existing programs effectively create a cartel of large agri-businesses. Without competition from smaller farms, these large corporate farms are able to maintain profits in the face of government regulations by using artificial growth hormones, harmful pesticides, genetic modification, and other techniques to try to keep their prices level.

Consumers responded to the agri-business cartel by demanding higher quality. So were born the local co-ops and the independent farms that began the organic food movement in the 1980’s. The fact that consumers were willing to pay almost twice the price for organic food showed the desire of the public for a better quality food supply.

Of course, the argi-business cartel soon realized the threat of the organic movement. Beyond co-opting the “organic” label into their own products, argi-business and their friends in Washington DC were able to bring organic farming under the purview of the US. Dept. of Agriculture. In a FAQ sheet distributed by the Barberry Hill Farm CSA of Madison, CT, the assault on the organic movement was made clear as the owners explained why they cannot call their food “organic”:
“Starting in 2000, only farmers whose growing practices meet newly minted USDA standards for organic production can call their produce "organic." Previously, independent certification agencies certified farmers as organic, using a set of standards upon which the current USDA standards are based. The transition from the old independent certifiers to the monolithic USDA certification process was such a chaotic mess that most except the largest opted to drop out until the dust settled.”
With the organic movement being slowly co-opted into the corporate agri-business structure, consumers are again demanding higher quality. With nowhere to turn, they are resorting to growing their own food. But of course, our friends in DC just cannot leave well enough alone. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), has introduced HR 875: The Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009. This bill, if enacted, would introduce even higher federal reporting standards for food production at every level, penalizing small and independent farms, and may even regulate even backyard farms, as discussed in this blog post on the Campaign for Liberty site and in a previous blogpost here at this blog.

Moreover, local authorities are not helping much either. Combating the urban chicken movement, cities and towns have confiscated hens on the basis of noise and odor concerns. Some public officials even worry about the spread of Avian Flu, despite reports indicating that these fears are unfounded for small-scale chicken owners. Will more regulations follow? Special Use Permits? Mandated Avian Flu vaccines for those owning chickens? Minimum standards for care? Where will consumers go for quality food when they cannot even produce it for themselves? And what society will we live in if people cannot even grow their own food? How can we call America the “land of the free” or her government one of “limited powers” at that point?

We have a major problem in our society when farmers cannot deliver quality food to us better than we can produce it ourselves. The problem is exacerbated by a government that continues to throw favors to their friends in the corporate agri-business cartel while shutting down small farms and even backyard gardens and coops in an attempt to eliminate competition! The fact that our society is regressing in self-sufficiency in the area of food should be a sign that the existing government regulations have burdened the industry to the point of eliminating the advantages of the division of labor. If we can clean up the mess the government has made in agriculture, we will go a long way towards restoring liberty, prosperity and constitutional republic to America

The Judge Nails It Again

In a few days we are going to see how broke the FDIC is - and with all the bank failures this year it is not going to be pretty.

And they want to manage our healthcare? Good grief!
Members of Congress have already told Private Insurance companies (private businesses) that they want all of their records regarding employee compensation, travel, conferences, expenses ...etc. etc. But I have a secret... If one really thinks about it - the insurance companies WANT government managed care and a public option so they can dump their high risk, costly customers into the public option and make YOU the taxpayer pay for the cost of their care! Then they will raise the rates on the rest of us who want to keep our private insurance instead of opting for substandard public rationed care (and YES it will be substandard rationed care). Presto - they will be making more money on less people who will most likely use less medical services. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

My guess is that Pro Universal Healthcare members in Congress will also be using a manufactured and totally hyped Swine Flu crisis to scare everyone into voting for this horrendous mess of a healthcare bill come the fall.

Co-op - Public Option - it's all the same and it's just reframing the debate by calling the same thing by another name and trying to convince the public that it is somehow different - dare I say it - they are indeed putting lipstick on this pig.

Just what we need - one more idiot expensive government program to further hasten the complete bankruptcy of our nation.

"The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money." -Alexis de Tocqueville

The Coming Pension Plan Tsunami

This website is interesting - see what is being written about regarding the upcoming problems for State and local municipalities as a result of unfunded, as well as the cost of funded pension accounts. The emphasis is on California in this website - but they also report on other States - and most States are suffering from the same budgetary problems as a result of unsustainable pensions and spending. There is also a section about Social Security. Jack Dean is the editor and publisher of
That approaching wave of pension debt is bigger than it looks. The purpose of this site is to provide an overview of the multiple pension crises that are about to drown America's taxpayers.

The home page includes all newsclips that have been e-mailed to subscribers on a daily basis.

The tabs at the top of the page provide a breakdown of all newsclips by category -- public employee pensions (government agencies), corporate pensions, social security (we aren't devoting a lot of time to this, since so many others are), and international trends.

There is also an associated blog called Pension Watch. is a project of FACT -- the Fullerton Association of Concerned Taxpayers. FACT's primary focus is on California's public employee pension and OPEB crisis, but we also monitor the world of corporate pensions and any developments in Social Security since it is taxpayers who will ultimately be responsible for making up deficits incurred by any of them. We also try to monitor international trends. FACT's president is Jack Dean.

Obama Visits Open Carry States

Arizonan exercising his right to open carry during Obama visit

It looks to me like Obama and his media friends are trying to make a big issue out of open carry by going to open carry states (New Hampshire, Arizona.. etc) for his "town hall" meetings...

The Obama people must know what the state's laws are before they visit - so why are they making a stink out of the fact that people carry weapons in these states? That is their right and they are not breaking any laws - nor are they making any trouble - and they certainly aren't looking to shoot anyone!

In this sense the Obama administration is being quite transparent. It is pretty plain to see that the Obama administration is looking to get open carry banned, especially at events like these ... and they are purposely causing a stir by going to states that are open carry and then making a stink about it when people show up who have a right to open carry in their state.

If anything - these folks carrying weapons to these presidential events (and by the way, they aren't anywhere near the president) - should charge the White House for acting as extra security for the president's safety! As well as others!

I remember when I was in New Hampshire for the New Hampshire Liberty Forum in 2008, staying at the same hotel that John McCain was staying at during the primary - and his staff went absolutely nuts that folks were carrying guns in the hotel. They complained to the hotel, and the staff merely informed them that this was the law in New Hampshire! P.S. John McCain was not harmed, and the only commotion that was created was by his staffers.

Given what the Union thugs have been doing at these rallies (like assaulting disabled people) - it seems like a good idea that at least some people in the crowd have firearms to protect themselves and others around them from possible union assaults!

If Obama and his media don't approve of open carry laws and are frightened by law abiding citizens, then why don't they go visit some other states that don't alarm them as much? Seems like the President and his media are a bit paranoid. I hope he doesn't really think that citizens have to lose their rights just because he comes to town.

And it is funny how the media doesn't get so hysterical over the number of heavily-armed bodyguards carrying concealed weapons!

But so let's recap - because this is really starting to get interesting:
- Even though it is your right to carry a gun - don't bring it anywhere near where the President (or maybe even where any official) might venture because that just "increases the danger to everyone" - so don't exercise your right to open carry.

- Even though you have a right to free speech you shouldn't tell the President (or maybe even any official) that he is wrong because it just increases hostility - so don't exercise your right to free speech.

- Even though it is your right to assemble in groups you shouldn't do that because you are perceived as being "a mob" and that makes other people (including government officials) nervous - so don't get together with like minded individuals to exercise your right to free assembly; stay at home.

- Even though you have a write to free press - blogging, writing letters or editorials, and engaging in any other activity which convey strong opinions about various issues just makes other people mad - so don't write or read stuff that might be deemed "offensive"; don't exercise that freedom of the press.
Don't you see your rights evaporating?

But back to this rally in Arizona and the one in New Hampshire:
Let's see.... no crimes committed and no arrests made. What a story! So this must demonstrate that law abiding gun owners are not a bunch of nuts; they are just people exercising their rights and attending a peaceable rally.

It would seem that the anti-gun people just can't stand it, and might even be hoping that shots are fired. Who knows...with all the purported plants at these events...I truly hope that they don't engineer some sort of incident in order to usher in more useless gun control laws. (States with less restrictive laws have less crime - that's a fact)

By the way - did you know gun control laws were designed to disarm Slaves, Freedmen, and African-Americans? It was an act of racism. Also ... The Nazi Weapons Law of March 18, 1938, cleared the way for World War II and Nazi genocide against the Jews, Gypsies and millions of others. Firearms ownership was restricted to members of the Nazi party and other "reliable" people. It is speculated that US lawmakers like Senator Thomas J. Dodd even implanted parts of the Nazi Weapons Law into American law (The Gun Control act of 1968).

Gun control laws impinge on that most fundamental of rights: self-defense.

"One of the ordinary modes, by which tyrants accomplish their purposes without resistance, is, by disarming the people, and making it an offense to keep arms." - Constitutional scholar and Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story, 1840

"Forty years ago, when the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British Parliament was disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually, by totally disusing and neglecting the militia..." - George Mason (In Virginia's Ratifying Convention, Elliot p.3:379-380)

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the people's liberty teeth keystone... the rifle and the pistol are equally indispensable... more than 99% of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference. When firearms go, all goes, we need them every hour." - George Washington (Address to 1st session of Congress)

"Every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state." Connecticut Constitution Article First SEC. 15.
