We must have had about 200 people attend today's event.
Lots of signs, chants and honking horns.
Not bad after only 3 days notice for this gathering.
I am certain there will be more of these protests to come.

CNBC’s Rick Santelli (backed by mortgage traders), called out last week for a “Nationwide Chicago Tea Party” to protest the Obama Administration’s Pork laden Stimulus Plan.

The Boston Tea Party was an act of direct protest by American Colonists demanding representation in the British Government.

Now that's what I call kicking it up a notch!

ELYRIA: The 70-year-old wife of an Ohio judge says teens who tried to rob her made her so angry that she whacked one in the head with a sauce pan.

Ellen Basinski says she was on the phone with her husband Tuesday when four boys pushed their way into her home in Elyria, west of Cleveland.

Lorain County Judge David Basinski overheard the scuffle and raced home, while his wife grabbed her favorite pan to defend herself against the intruders rifling through her purse and cabinets.

One of the teens told police he threw a bottle of whiskey at Basinski to distract her so another boy could flee. They ran from the house but were later caught and charged with aggravated burglary.

The judge says his wife is upset that police took the pan as evidence.

Peter Schiff Responds To Obama's Speech

Some folks disagree with this analysis just on one point. They believe that Mr. Obama and his administration knows full well what they are doing to our economy and our country (as did Mr. Bush). Seems that if they can crash the economy they can make everyone dependent on government and be able to run our lives from cradle to grave and be in full control. Remember what Rahm Emanuel said, ""You never want a serious crisis to go to waste". Oh right.. that's just conspiracy hokum.

Looks like that is good advice; do what it takes to preserve your assets at this point.

Nice Speech Mr. Obama ...But....

How are you planning to pay for all of this Spending????

Egads... Obama's "can do" pep rally before Congress and the American people last night was well delivered etc., but honestly, it was more hope and change blah, blah, blah. Lots of words and promises and little substance. For goodness sakes he promises to cure Cancer!

All that was missing was the pom poms and 4th of July fireworks display!
And this was supposed to lift our doldrums?

I know he is trying to instill confidence - but words are not enough.
Uttering nationalistic rhetoric is not enough.
And please let's not equate being American, or supporting America with agreeing to Obama's policies.
Sure he re-iterated American pride - and I am all for that - but his administration's actions counter the "can do" attitude by continually focusing on handouts and bailouts.

The actions that this government has begun to take, and the ones they are planning, really will not help get us out of the mess they have built for us over the past decade (or more) with legislation for easy credit and a monetary and foreign policy that has been obviously detrimental.

Also, slamming CEO's that have abused their business finances is stupid especially in light of the fact that the government continues to fund them!

He talks about accountability and responsibility and so on, yet after spending over a trillion dollars there is now more spending is being laid out on the floor of Congress! $410 Billion more to be exact. With 9,000 different "earmarks" to be more exact. And, these are the very kinds of earmarks that Obama campaigned against and later said he'd veto. Honestly Mr. Obama ... money to finance astronomy in Hawaii?

These people in Washington have absolutely gone insane!
I want to know - how is all this spending going to be paid for?

Tax the rich you say?
Tax business you say?

and what happens when the business and the rich can no longer ante up and decide to close shop? Who pays then? The incentive to become rich and own a business will evaporate. Then what?

Then there will come a time real soon when the Chinese will not want to buy anymore of our debt. Then what? We just print more money? That's a good way to devalue US currency! But that's what they are setting us up for.

Another thing... the taxpayers are really getting sick and tired of bailing everyone out. Why should we all be expected to pay off everyone else's bills? One mayor's plan in Houston was to pay off homebuyers' credit cards so they could buy a house! Are you kidding me?

Yes, Mr. Obama we have a big problem, many big problems, and they need to be addressed now. But we cannot spend our way out of failed monetary policy.

Punishing businessmen in this country is not the way to prosperity.
Rewarding failing business is not the way to prosperity.
Expanding government is not the way to prosperity.
Making people more dependent on government is not the way to prosperity.
More government control over business and our citizens is not the way to prosperity.
Government giving us stuff is not the way to prosperity!

We need sound money and our families need to be able to keep more of their wealth.
We need government to stop raiding our paychecks so we can pay off our debts and accumulate wealth.
We need business to fail when they manage themselves like idiots. No matter how big they become.
We need people to keep more of their paychecks so they can put money away for a rainy day or for their retirements.
More money in individual's pockets should be put there by the individual - not by government.
Taking money from "Richie Rich" to give to "Sad Sack" is not government's function or right.

Yes, Mr. President, we are a "can do" country - so please let government get out of the way and let us "do" what we can do!

Let me end with something that I do support Mr. Obama on:
I agree that we need to have a comprehensive energy policy to launch us into better development and implementation of alternative sources. I applaud the Obama administration for promoting that.


With regard to the speech - this comes to mind:

Some say it's just another Congressman seeking attention (Just like Charlie Rangel's proposal to bring back the military draft) and that the possibility that this goes anywhere is very slim.
They say that Rep. Serrano is just some "fringe" Democrat gone wild.

Barack Obama has brought no real change to Washington, except that he is moving us much closer to being a Democratic Socialist country.
His administration is seeking to nationalize the banking system.
His Robin Hood administration is seeking to tax the rich to redistribute to "the poor" while bringing amnesty to illegal aliens in this country... and much more.

So do we Americans want to be faced with no term limit on this Presidency?

Rick Santelli's Response To The White House

You tell 'em Rick!
We read the plan too, and it still stinks!

Allowing Judicial Modifications of Home Mortgages During Bankruptcy When A Borrower Has No Other Options ???? So any judge can change a contract??? What?? Is the White House nuts??

Since when does an un-involved party get to rewrite the terms of a contract in this country?

When you sign on the dotted line that is your responsibility.

What we need is banks to work with their customers to resolve their foreclosures... we don't need government and judges inserting themselves into the process.

Santelli gave the plan the treatment it deserved - he ripped it up.
It's refreshing to see this on a cable news station.

While Mr. Gibbs is on the subject of having people read stuff...How about we give Mr. Gibbs a reading assignment?

Rick Santelli tapped into welled up anger and frustration of the American taxpaying public.

His suggestion of a Chicago Tea Party regarding the Obama Stimulus plan and mortgage bailout plan has caught on like wildfire. He mentioned a Tea Party for July. Other people want something sooner.

There will be Nationwide simultaneous demonstrations in protest of Stimulus Bill. Event begins in Washington D.C. at 12:00 pm EST where protesters will be throwing the shredded Bill into the Potomac.

It looks like there will be a demonstration in Hartford and it will be at the State Capitol - February 27, 2009 from 12pm to 1pm (Meet Supreme Court - 11:45 AM, front steps)

White House Damage Control Team Tries To Muzzle Rick Santelli

Did you honestly think that someone who has a dissenting opinion would be left to speak without being mocked and ridiculed or otherwise criticized by the Obama White House and their Socialist policy supporters?

We are in a new age people.
You are not allowed a dissenting opinion, especially if it is a public outburst.

I guess Rick Santelli, of the Chicago Board of Trades (CBOT) and Mercantile Exchange, will be given a stern talking to for what the Leftists call the "rant heard 'round the world"

The White House has invited him over for a cup of coffee
to "clarify" their policies to Mr. Santelli. Perhaps they are going to "re-educate" Mr. Santelli.

So while CT Senator Chris Dodd can speak of nationalizing banks, and end up moving Citibank and Bank of America investors to a giant sell off which probably vaporized a couple of billion dollars of net wealth today - Press Secretary Robert Gibbs can attack Santelli and say:
"I also think it's tremendously important that for people who rant on cable television to be responsible and understand what it is they're talking about. I feel assured that Mr. Santelli doesn't know what he's talking about...

“Mr. Santelli has argued, I think quite wrongly, that this plan won’t help everyone,”

“This plan helps people who have been playing by the rules. ... I would encouraged him to read the president’s plan. ... I’d be more than happy to have him come here to read it. I’d be happy to buy him a cup of coffee — decaf”.
The video shows that Gibbs waved a copy of a fact sheet about Obama’s plan and chided Santelli to read it. “Download it, hit print, and begin to read it,” Gibbs said.

Sorry - but I will wager that Robert Gibbs hasn't read much of the new mortgage plan himself, or even a few pages of the "Stimulus bill".

It is so typical of the Left to marginalize and mock a dissenting voice (especially calling it a "rant").

As for Steve Liesman and Jim Cramer of CNBC, they ought to stop trying to artificially bolster the market and just be straight with everyone. The fact is that we cannot spend our way out of this problem.

I just hope Santelli doesn't back down just because his Cable TV comrades are drinking the Obama Kool-Aid or because the White House wants to give him a talking to.

Santelli happens to be right.
He has also tapped into what the everyday American taxpayer is feeling.

He is especially right that honest hardworking taxpayers in this country who have been responsible and playing by the rules are sick of handing their hard earned money over to an inept government that is busy spending wildly and making our children and their children into debtors for life.

The Stimulus bill had little to do with stimulus and the Mortgage bailout bill will reward bad behavior. Investments are risky. That includes owning a home. Folks are now expecting to to get their losses back from somewhere. That somewhere is turning out to be the pockets of the rich and middle class, or the government printing presses.

I'd like you to also try this at Foxwoods (or your local casino establishment) - go gambling - and then asking for your money back when you lose. See what happens. You'll probably be tossed out on your buttocks. Those nasty rich casino owners.... someone ought to regulate them for doing that to innocent unsuspecting patrons. Better yet, just collect more money from the local taxpayers to reimburse you for your loss.

The Nationalization Of U.S. Banks

Well well well... after making legislation in the 1990's pretty much mandating that banks lend money to people who couldn't afford loans for housing, and later rewarding those banks with TARP money when they became insolvent after this ill conceived universal housing scheme fell seems that these banks are now in for a dose of government nationalization. You'd think those highly paid CEO's might have seen this one coming.

Help from Washington DC always comes with strings attached.
Strings attached translates into control.

But you know what? People still say - The key to nationalization is that the government actually owns and runs the institution, and that is not what is happening "in totality".
They say - we'd just be nationalizing parts of banks - or just a "little bit".
All I have to say is that once they let that camel's nose into this tent by taking "a little control" of these TARP receiving banking institutions, then it won't be much longer before total control is seized, especially if there is some sort of "crisis" or "national emergency".

Can someone please, please, please look at some history???
France nationalized their banks in the 1980s, and those efforts failed miserably, so much so that the banks ended up going back to being held in private hands again. In the 1990's East Asian banks also nationalized and they devolved into inefficient state-run institutions. There are so many problems inherent in state run banking that it just become one huge inefficient behemoth. It can wipe out shareholders, and government also dictates who runs the bank and how.

The market isn't so thrilled with the notion of bank nationalization as evidenced by the plummeting value of their preferred shares of stock (particularly by Citi and Bank of America).

Now they stand poised to be renamed "Bank of Amerika" and "Commie Group"

I'm telling you, this whole housing bubble and banking crisis was started way back in the Clinton administration, and now the Clintonistas are back in the Obama cabinet to finish off the Socialist agenda they had in mind all along. No great surprise.

So what does that mean to us?
It's just one more scored for Karl Marx's "10 Planks" to seize power and destroy freedom:
specifically number 5: Centralization of Credit in the Hands of the State, by Means of a National Bank with State Capital and an Exclusive Monopoly.

Hope and Change?
That's what you get folks.
Keep voting Progressives and Statists into office and that's what you get.
An expensive nanny state that offers little else than tyranny.

And you can take that to the bank!

Ah - there seems to be such thing as karmic payback.
Print garbage and evidently your newspaper turns into garbage.

Just Say NO

Several Governors are considering rejection of the stimulus money from Washington, D.C.
Though none has outright rejected the money available for education, health care and infrastructure, the governors of Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alaska, South Carolina and Idaho have all questioned whether the $787 billion bill signed into law this week will even help the economy.

"My concern is there's going to be commitments attached to it that are a mile long," said Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who considered rejecting some of the money but decided Wednesday to accept it. "We need the freedom to pick and choose. And we need the freedom to say 'No thanks.'"
Government money = Strings attached.

Just like in real life, you just have to refuse the help from your parents if you want to be a free adult.

Are you listening Governor Rell? What will the Feds expect CT do in exchange for the billions?

Elected officials must surely understand that there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Will every Governor (and their legislatures) in this country be an accomplice in the eventual hyperinflation that this monetized legislation will produce?

Will every Governor (and their legislatures) be accountable to our children and grandchildren and their children who will have to pay for this legislation?

Will every Governor (and their legislatures) be accountable when this Federal money grows government to even larger unsustainable proportions?

Cut the spending and shrink government now - that is the answer to this problem.

Nationalizing The US Banking System

Well - it was just a matter of time before this brilliant idea emerged.
Sounds to me like they are boiling the frog.
"The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of 'liberalism' they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."

Backed by Obama and apparently GOP leaders too, it looks like we are headed for a Swedish style banking system:
Barack Obama, the president, who has tried to avoid panicking lawmakers and markets by entertaining the idea, has moved more towards what he calls the “Swedish model” – an approach backed strongly by Mr Graham. In the early 1990s Sweden nationalised its banking sector then auctioned banks having cleaned up balance sheets. “In limited circumstances the Swedish model makes sense for the US,” says Mr Graham.
What's amusing is how this administration already speaks out of both sides of its mouth:
The Obama administration remains opposed to federal control. Mr Geithner last week said: “Governments are terrible managers of bad assets.”

But Even Alan Greenspan has lost his laissez-faire mind.
The US government may have to nationalise some banks on a temporary basis to fix the financial system and restore the flow of credit, Alan Greenspan, the former Federal Reserve chairman, has told the Financial Times.

In an interview, Mr Greenspan, who for decades was regarded as the high priest of laisser-faire capitalism, said nationalisation could be the least bad option left for policymakers.

”It may be necessary to temporarily nationalise some banks in order to facilitate a swift and orderly restructuring,” he said. “I understand that once in a hundred years this is what you do.”

We do NOT need more government to fix the mess that government got us into in the first place!

Look banks... just renegotiate the damn mortgages and let's get on with it already - no nationalization needed. Thank you.

In a related story: Homeowners are demanding that mortgage notes be produced.
Persuading a judge to compel production of hard-to-find or nonexistent documents can, at the very least, delay foreclosure, buying the homeowner some time and turning up the pressure on the lender to renegotiate the mortgage.

Obama - The "Anti-War" President

Yes kids - More Obama Campaign promises vanish into thin air.

I laughed my butt off to see the anti-war protesters in my Town's Center this past weekend - you know the very same ones who prior to January 20, 2009 carried signs with all sorts of anti-Bush slogans and placards reading "Brahms not Bombs" and "War is not the Answer" (yada-yada-yada) ... now they carry the same anti-war signs but as of yet no anti-Obama slogans even though he has assumed the role of Commander in Chief. (don't worry that will come soon too)

They must just love our new "anti-war president".

Obama is sending 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan.
The White House said the new commander in chief would send a Marine unit and one additional Army brigade to Afghanistan this spring and summer. About 8,000 Marines are expected to go first, followed by an Army brigade, totaling about 4,000 troops, and 5,000 support forces. The United States has slightly more than 30,000 troops in the country now.

The new troops going to Afghanistan represent the first installment on a larger influx of U.S. forces widely expected this year.
This was the Liberal darling who promised to bring the troops out of Iraq... little did the anti-war folks who supported Mr. Obama know that what he really meant was he would send them somewhere else! Like Afghanistan or Pakistan.

But then again - he can't bring the troops home - there is NO employment for them here at home. Maybe that is why he is keeping them deployed.

Class Warfare - A Mainstay Of The Obama Administration

Class Warfare is already gearing up.

Obama and Congress are drunk with power and they really do not understand what the economic reality is for the everyday person. Yeah sure, they drag out people with sob stories about what tough times they are experiencing. To what end? We are all struggling in one way shape or form.

But honestly, it seems like it is all about victimhood, and less about solving the problems that people are having. It's all about how nothing else but government can "help" instead of about how people can help themselves.

The Obama administration is trying to stoke the fires of entitlement, and in the process they are creating a very angry citizenry that will be steeped in class warfare. Make no mistake, it has begun.

The poor, who already get government assistance, want and even have come to expect more - and it doesn't even matter if they are citizens of our country! The middle class are being bled - some working 2 and 3 jobs to pay their taxes and put food on the table and in addition support all those people who have come to rely on government handouts (i.e. tax money from the public purse). The middle class, and anyone else who has some savings tucked away, are seeing their savings evaporating, especially if their 401-K's and other plans are tied to the stock market. The rest of anything that is left will have less buying power as we see inflation rise. Meanwhile the rich are being scorned for their excesses.

Of course, when people talk about "the wealthy" - who are they talking about? Those who make over $100,000? That is easily accomplished by a middle class two income family, or the average small business person. What about $250,000? $500,000? over a million? Who exactly are these wealthy people that every politician these days seems to scorn? How much is too much to make? Why shouldn't the sky be the limit when it comes to income? Why shouldn't people fly jets if they can afford to?

Have wealthy CEO's made their money by exploitation of others? Probably, but we are also responsible to ourselves for not allowing ourselves to BE exploited in the first place! Perhaps that should have been the lesson of the easy credit given to people who really could not take on home loans. The government was not "doing them a favor" by helping them get into houses they could not afford. Then the government turns around and blames those nasty rich bankers for giving out easy credit sub-prime mortgages! Imagine that! The bankers are then the evil ones, and not the government that created the regulations that prompted the bankers to make bad loans in the first place!

And what about consumption as being an act of patriotism? After 9/11 we were told to go back into the malls and buy stuff. We are expected to max out our credit cards to buy the HD TVs that we don't really need - and yet we are also reprimanded for having atrocious credit scores as a result. Go figure.

People have already cast the blame on the wealthy in this country because of their success - without understanding that it is the wealthy that have provided jobs and business opportunities for so many. Even as Congressional Representatives in their recent hearings ripped apart the CEO's that own Cessnas, their shortsightedness is apparent as they do not understand that even the Cessna makers create jobs and also fuel the economy. There are a lot of jobs in the private aviation sector. Stop buying Cessnas and Yachts and many people will be out of work. Not only that, but the huge taxes paid on those items will go uncollected if no one owns them - as do the airport and marina rental fees and other expenses. You have to understand something: Poor people do not spend money. Poor people do not pay taxes. You have to also understand that there is no real incentive to get off the public dole if the government does everything for you.

It is easy enough to exploit jealousy and despair. It is easy enough for some to demand that wealthy people give what they have earned to those who, for whatever reason, have not fared so well in life. But imagine what our world would be like if the wealthy did not give to charities, as they do, or if they did not engage in the risks of business, as they do, or if they did not make the extravagant purchases which in turn fuel businesses and service industries. What if the wealthy went on strike? (ala an Ayn Rand novel). Some of them are already going out of business and the layoffs of those companies are beginning.

On the flip side, and unfortunately, what is also happening is that poorly managed businesses are being compensated by government to stay in business and to continue to make poor business decisions. That is government bailout and corporate welfare in action; a classic demonstration of government interference in the market.

What's worse is the hypocrisy coming out of Washington, as Congress excoriates CEOs, when in fact many Congressmen are millionaires in their own right! The Obama cabinet is stacked with millionaires. Apparently it is o.k. for members of Congress to drive limousines and have multiple homes and fly private aircraft. It apparently O.K. for Congressmen to get sweetheart mortgage deals and do what they can to "game the system". How they can sit there in the luxurious chambers of our government and chastise those whose companies have spent money foolishly is completely ironic. As if the clowns in Washington DC don't also spend money foolishly!

Mr. Obama/Soetero wants to "spread the wealth around" as long as it isn't his wealth we are talking about. He wants YOU to pony up. He also wants you to give your spare house to the woman and her son who are out of work. Meanwhile his own illegal alien aunt lives on public assistance and other members of his family live in poverty. But no matter - they can live off government welfare programs paid for by you and me.

I really don't expect the government or anyone else to solve my problems and take care of me.
As long as I have the opportunity and freedom to make changes in my life, or to take advantage of opportunities that come my way, then that is what matters most. I accept responsibility for myself. That is a lesson we should all take on. And while life deals us all a different hand - for whatever reason this universe deems so - we would do well to heed the commandment:
You shall not covet your neighbour’s house; you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour.
Class warfare is unproductive nonsense. It hurts everyone. It creates ill will, mis-placed blame, mis-directed anger, and undeserved guilt.

We forget that everyone in this society is important from the CEO to the waitress at the diner. Everyone serves an important function and not everyone can be a CEO. Every job in our society is important from the artisan chair maker to the plumber to the school janitor to the Wall Street account executive. Compensation is relative to education, training, and job demand. We also forget that some jobs were not meant to provide an income to support an entire family.

Don't blame million dollar athletes for making tons of money because we value their entertainment more than that of cancer researchers or school teachers. And we shouldn't expect the wealthy (whatever wealthy means) to give up a majority of their income to provide for everyone else, unless they wish to do so.

The most important thing to remember is that in the end, there is no difference between the poor man and the rich man in the cemetery.

The passage of this massive spending bill will do little to actually stimulate the economy. It'll save some mice in Nancy Pelosi's district, and get new furniture for Federal office buildings among other things.

We have too much debt and we are spending out of control while continuing to grow government. What they have done, and that includes the last 8 years and beyond that too, is to destroy this economy and trample our Constitutional rights in the process.

Americans ought to demand that this "stimulus" pork spending bill be stopped, pulled back and redrawn.

Read the bill yourself. It's 1,434 pages long and has been fast-tracked (line-outs stop on page 677). I will wager no legislator has read the entire thing, nor knows what's in it. The public is being sold a ginormous bill of goods with regard to how this will "help the economy"

According to Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson, this legislation is
“a symbol of the complete and utter waste of tax dollars contained in a bill which proponents claim will 'save' the economy.Instead of 'saving' the economy, Congress, led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is concerned with saving mice. The American people now know they've been lied to. There was supposed to be no pork in this bill. This trillion dollar spending bill Congress will vote on in the next few days will only divert precious, critical capital away from the private sector by dramatically and permanently increasing government spending, thereby increasing the financial burden government poses to the economy and to future generations. Leaders of Congress are exploiting the economic crisis to pay off key political constituencies: state governments, public employee unions, transportation and construction unions, the environmental lobby, the education lobby, and of course, delivers hundreds of billions of pork all across the nation. Congress has decided not to even address the root causes of the current economic calamity: easy money from the Fed coupled by the massive expansion of credit and lending"
Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK), said that the Senate version of the bill “will add $10,800 of debt to every American family…” and he cited a Congressional Budget Office report that predicts that this piece of legislation will cause our GDP to shrink over the long term. Additionally, they say that the projected deficit without this legislation this year is $1.2 trillion. The current national debt nears $10.7 trillion.

Congressional Democrats (and at least 3 Republicans) met in conference in the past two days after different versions of the "stimulus" bill were passed in their respective chambers, and came up with a version of the bill that will be voted on tomorrow. They have fast-tracked this bill to light speed - allowing only 48 hours for the conference report to be viewed publicly before being voted on.

The pork filled spending bill that they say will help the economy now totals $789 billion, or $1.1 trillion after interest.

Here's what it contains:
- around $97 billion in new spending programs
- $92 billion of expansions of existing federal programs.
- $53.6 billion for states to balance their budgets
- $45 billion of which boosts education spending
- $50 billion in green energy subsidies and tax credits
- $55 billion for transportation projects
- Groups like ACORN will be eligible for up to $2 billion in neighborhood stabilization funds
- Extension of food stamps and unemployment benefits
- Builds and refurnishes federal buildings
- Provides more money for public housing
- Dollars for climate change supercomputers
- Money for erection of trade barriers overseas
- Creates refundable tax credits
- Provides for high-speed Internet service.

There is little here that puts money in the hands of people immediately - as most of these projects won't begin for another year.

There is nothing in there that will give RV jobs back to those folks in Elkhart.
There is nothing in there that will help people losing their homes in Fort Myers.

Workers stand to get a whopping $13 a week more in their paycheck as economic stimulus. (Please guys - now don't spend it all in one place!)

This legislation will put our country deeper in debt.

Obviously the stock market didn't like it much either.

Mississippi Passes Legislation Protecting Gun Owners

Mississippi lawmakers recently passed legislation to protect Mississippi residents during any event of martial law. On the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi website, Phil Bryant announced the passage of SB 2036. The website says: “SB 2036 restricts the power of a peace officer to confiscate firearms and ammunitions in an emergency or during a time of martial law”.

Mississippi State Senator Merle Flowers wrote and introduced this legislation and nine others c0-authored the bill. It passed the Senate on February 4 by a unanimous vote and amends Section 33-7-303 of Mississippi Code of 1972 to “explicitly restrict the power to confiscate firearms and ammunitions in an emergency.”

The NRA said this on their website:
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the Mississippi Legislature amended the state’s firearms preemption law to prevent cities and counties from interfering with the lawful transportation and possession of firearms in one's home, vehicle, or place of business during a state of emergency or natural disaster. Senate Bill 2036, would further amend the state's emergency powers laws to create additional Second Amendment protections for law-abiding citizens during a future crisis.

Now, I understand people have "urgent needs" - but honestly, is government really responsible for fixing everyone's problems? What about Family? Community? or even Self?

I wonder if Peggy Joseph has had Obama pay for her gas and her mortgage yet?

What has America come to that it's citizens are unable to care for themselves? That they expect government to give them everything from college educations to their own bathroom and kitchen.

This is NOT the America that our Founders intentioned. We have come so far away from the values of Thomas Jefferson's time, and even those of American pioneers and many European immigrants who came to carve out a life for themselves in this country. These were Americans who valued self-reliance, intelligence, honesty, and hard work.

Don't get me wrong, as I am sympathetic to the hardships that people face. No one knows what the future holds for any of us - and we could each end up homeless etc., but do we really need government to solve our problems for us? Should we expect government to do that?

Also, with all of the government agencies, funded and already in place to "help people", why is it that someone like Ms. Hughes was not helped until she came out at a public meeting and made to pretty much humiliate herself in front of her President and all of America? Begging is not a pretty endeavor. One has to wonder if established government agencies could not help Ms. Hughes, then what on earth will we be staring at when Universal Healthcare is thrust upon us?
But I digress....

I have heard it said that we are the most generous nation on the planet. There are all sorts of private agencies that help people in need. People DO step up to help members in their community during difficult times. We saw that with the person who is offering her house to Ms. Hughes, and the people who are giving job offers to Julio. Aside from that, there is so much that people can do for themselves to prevent them from getting into difficult situations to begin with. You save money for a rainy day - you get various forms of insurance, you make provisions for the future and you figure out some sort of life strategies. You make sure you get a decent education so that you can make a decent living.

Where is the notion of self-reliance?

Perhaps people ought to realize that their problems might be because government has prevented them from realizing their dreams! That government has taken away their wages through taxation, has provided substandard education, has provided every opportunity for dependency and has reinforced that dependency.

It looks as if Government has become "my brother's keeper" in more ways than one. The question is - is that government's function?

Another question begs to be asked... since Obama is busy 'giving out stuff' - why hasn't he helped members of his own family that live in poverty? (Aunt Zeituni Onyango and George Hussein Onyango Obama ) - oh right - it's because it isn't his money he is giving away.

Interestingly enough - one has to also wonder if these "hardship cases" at these Town Hall meetings weren't somehow staged by the Obama camp. It wouldn't surprise me. It obviously makes for good theatrical politics. It is however, a very sad statement regarding what Americans have been reduced to.

Mathematicians Discover The Largest Number

PALO ALTO, CA - An international mathematics research team announced today that they had discovered a new integer that surpasses any previously known value ... Project director Yujin Xiao of Stanford University said the theoretical number, dubbed a "stimulus," could lead to breakthroughs in fields as diverse as astrophysics, quantum mechanics, and Chicago asphalt contracting.

"Unlike previous large numbers like the Googleplex or the Bazillionty, the Stimulus has no static numerical definition," said Xiao. "It keeps growing and growing, compounding factorially, eating up all zeros in its path. It moves freely across Cartesian dimensions and has the power to make any other number irrational."

Jean-Luc Brossard, a researcher with the European consortium CERN, said the number is so staggeringly large that it is difficult for even mathematicians to grasp, let alone lay people.

"The number itself is incomprehensible by human minds, and can only be theoretically understood in a fractional parallel universe which we refer to as the DC dimension," said Brossard. "The best way to understand a stimulus is to imagine a dollar sign followed by a packed string of hexidecimal nanodigits, wound into a triple helix, woven into a dodecahedron, and stacked on top of one another. ...

Xiao said the team discovered the number with the help of an international network of 24 nitrogen-cooled Cray Ultracluster supercomputers, the CERN particle accelerator, and "three pounds of Humboldt County Chronic."

"The exciting news is that with more powerful computers and drugs, we believe we are on the verge of discovering an even larger number, which we refer to as a 'stimulusconferencebill,'" said Xiao. "Speaker Pelosi has already promised us the funding."

So Now Obama Wants To Control The 2010 Census

The US Constitution calls for a census to be done every 10 years.
Article 1, Section 2: "The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct."

Counting citizens is a powerful political tool.

The Commerce Department has had the customary duty of counting heads in this country, but now "The Leader" is bringing that task close to the vest by moving it to the White House under the direction of his own Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel, instead of his Commerce head appointee, Judd Gregg, the Republican senator from New Hampshire. It seems Gregg just couldn't be trusted to conduct a complete census. Imagine that. Ah, such is the result of bi-partisanship in the new age of "Change".

And so it seems politics will trump science in this next census.

John Fund Wrote an interesting piece: Why Obama Wants Control of the Census and here are some highlights:
Anything that threatens the integrity of the Census has profound implications. Not only is it the basis for congressional redistricting, it provides the raw data by which government spending is allocated on everything from roads to schools. The Bureau of Labor Statistics also uses the Census to prepare the economic data that so much of business relies upon. "If the original numbers aren't as hard as possible, the uses they're put to get fuzzier and fuzzier," says Bruce Chapman, who was director of the Census in the 1980s.

Mr. Chapman worries about a revival of the effort led by minority groups after the 2000 Census to adjust the totals for states and cities using statistical sampling and computer models. In 1999, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in Department of Commerce v. U.S. House that sampling could not be used to reapportion congressional seats. But it left open the possibility that sampling could be used to redraw political boundaries within the states.

Such a move would prove controversial. "Sampling potentially has the kind of margin of error an opinion poll has and the same subjectivity a voter-intent standard in a recount has," says Mr. Chapman.

Starting in 2000, the Census Bureau conducted three years of studies with the help of many outside statistical experts. According to then Census director Louis Kincannon, the Bureau concluded that "adjustment based on sampling didn't produce improved figures" and could damage Census credibility.

The reason? In theory, statisticians can identify general numbers of people missed in a head count. But it cannot then place those abstract "missing people" into specific neighborhoods, let alone blocks. And anyone could go door to door and find out such people don't exist. There can be other anomalies. "The adjusted numbers told us the head count had overcounted the number of Indians on reservations," Mr. Kincannon told me. "That made no sense."

The problem of counting minorities and the homeless has long been known. Census Bureau statisticians believe that a vigorous hard count, supplemented by adding in the names of actual people missed by head counters but still found in public records, is likely to lead to a far more defensible count than sampling-based adjustment.

The larger debate prompted seven former Census directors -- serving every president from Nixon to George W. Bush -- to sign a letter last year supporting a bill to turn the Census Bureau into an independent agency after the 2010 Census. "It is vitally important that the American public have confidence that the census results have been produced by an independent, non-partisan, apolitical, and scientific Census Bureau," it read.


"The real issue is who directs the Census, the pros or the pols," says Mr. Chapman. "You would think an administration that's thumping its chest about respecting science would show a little respect for scientists in the statistical field." He worries that a Census director reporting to a hyperpartisan such as White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel increases the chances of a presidential order that would override the consensus of statisticians.

The Obama administration is downplaying how closely the White House will oversee the Census Bureau. But Press Secretary Robert Gibbs insists there is "historical precedent" for the Census director to be "working closely with the White House."

So, Rahm will get to fudge the numbers as he sees fit.
Maybe count some illegals as citizens...
Inflate some Democrat numbers...
The possibilities are endless.

I guess that is more of "the Change" we were supposed to see when "The Leader" was elected.

I can hardly wait to see the gerrymandering that will happen as a result of this "headcount".
